O WEEK

O-Week (Orientation Week) is a comprehensive week of activities designed to welcome Freshers (first time students) to IH. It helps them get to know their way around, meet other Freshers, current residents and staff.

This all happens through a series of ice-breaker activities, games, inter college competitions plus on and off-campus excursions. It’s a full week where you’ll burn off nervous energy, discover some hidden talents, laugh and settle into your new home.

International House is the only residential college on the UQ Campus that runs O-Week for Semester 1 and Semester 2 for incoming students. IH students starting mid-year don’t miss out on an orientation or the opportunity to make friends though fun shared experiences.

International House has been running O-Week for decades and knows how to build a program of most benefit to new students while also being safe, well supported and respectful of all.

There’s not much you need to do to prepare for O-Week, other than come along and give things a go!

“Performing the fresher dance has taught me that I can still do some things which I didn’t think I could do (I believe that I can dance!) The Housie spirit of IH is another highlight of O-Week. I was surprised by the high levels of Housie spirit by the freshers who showed their love for the College despite only arriving a few days ago. There was a lot of enthusiasm as we performed many chants throughout the week, which has helped us bond together and it made me feel like we are all one big family.”
