So you’re moving to IH… try these handy hints and hacks for packing!

Packing and moving to College doesn’t have to be stressful! Follow our top tips for ensuring a happy and smooth transition to your new ‘Aussie’ home at IH. We can’t wait to officially welcome all of you, our new Housies (as IH residents are affectionately known).

Condense!

The goal is to make the least amount of trips as possible, so pack smaller items into handbags and backpacks and arrange inside your main suitcase.

Dress for your new climate

Dress suitably for your new climate, wear comfortable shoes and clothing. Pack summer clothes in your carry-on luggage to change into when you reach Brisbane’s warm weather.

Arrive Early on Move-in Day

Try and arrive early on move-in day. Check-in at reception and introduce yourself to our friendly staff. A student helper (Housie) will help carry your stuff to your new room.

Making Friends

Prop open your door while you’re unpacking so your new neighbours can stop by and say hello.

Don’t forget a towel and toiletries

Bring your own towel and toiletries, it’s always nice to freshen up with a shower after a long trip.

Don’t pack the kitchen sink!

Remember we have awesome shops here Down Under, leave some room for new purchases

Pack a go-to travel kit

A go-to ‘travel kit’ with essentials you might need unpacking; scissors, duct tape, markers, basic medical supplies (eg. bandaids, nail clippers, medication) antiseptic wipes, and a doorstop is always handy.

Make a hard copy of important documents

Store your passport, important documents and key contact details in a safe place and make hard copies in case of emergency.

Be Ready…

To make new friends
To taste new cuisines including Australia’s famous ‘Vegemite’
To be open to new cultures, customs, and experiences
