Lu’au on G-Lawn!
Housies get ready to Lu’au this Saturday (14 September) to celebrate all things greater Polynesian. Co-hosted by UQ South Pacific Islander Association (UQ SPIA) this dynamic IH cultural day will be held on G-Lawn, between 12:30 pm-4:00 pm.
A Lu’au (ˈluːaʊ/) is a Polynesian and ancient Hawaiian ritual, originally called ‘aha‘aina, meaning ‘gathering meal,’. It is a celebration that is centered around feasting on traditional Pasifika cuisine with friends & family with entertainment.
Hāngi Lunch
The event highlight will be a delicious Hāngi lunch, a traditional Māori method of cooking food using heated rocks buried in a pit oven in the ground. On the menu basa fish and customary South Pacific Island dishes. Housies who would like to watch or help Hāngi preparations will start at 7 am on Saturday. Everyone is welcome.
